Facebook in NZ
As of January 2018, there were 3.5 million facebook users in NZ, of these around 2.8 million were active and looked at it around 14 times a day! Dependent on what you are selling will depend on who you want to market to but given these statistics it is definitely worth taking facebook marketing seriously.

Marketing Tips
There are two ways you can advertise on facebook. You can post on your business page and then boost that post for a certain amount of money per day. Or you can create an advertising account with Facebook which will enable you to create ads from scratch dependent on your goal. Both will get your business out there but the latter will enable you to be more specific and create more targeted ads.

So what’s important when you create adverts?

Marketing objective
Before you create an advert you need to know what your ad objective is. Are you running the advert to get more traffic to your website? Are you wanting to create more brand awareness? Do you want to demonstrate a product via a video? Whatever your objective is you will need to know this before you begin.

Audience
Secondly you need to know who you want to see your advert. Facebook advertising allows you to create a custom audience based on a number of different variables such as location, gender, age, demographics, job titles and interests. You can literally narrow down your audience to be as specific as you want giving you maximum exposure. So don’t just boost your post to everyone, be specific and start getting results.

Imagery
Next you will need to choose what type of advert you want to run: single image, carousel (where you have around 5-6 scrolling images) a slideshow or a video. Whatever advert you choose make sure that your imagery will cut through, that is relevant and something that will make people stop scrolling! Remember a picture tells a thousand words so make sure that you use the right image for your message. Facebook does not like anymore than 20% of you advert being text so save the copy for the post. Links and CTA’s
The overall end goal when placing an advert is a conversion, whether that conversion is a click through to your website or a sale, it’s important that you give the user somewhere to go. By this we mean that each advert needs to have a clear Call To Action (CTA) and a link through to a relevant page on your website. Once at your website make sure the page has continuity with your facebook advert and that there are clear CTAs so they can either buy your product or get in contact with you.

Cost
So how much will it cost? That question is really up to you. Facebook marketing is very affordable as a single advert can cost as little as $10 per day. But to really see a difference you will want to have a budget in mind for a month’s activity and then make a plan on how you want to spend it. The best way to do this is to set yourself a daily budget of around $15-20 and then run the promotion for a set period of time. If this is your first time advertising then consider trying different styles of adverts and see which one works best for your company.
